Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small neighborhood located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that there is a separate island west of Montreal but in fact the West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is commonly called her birthplace. But she only stayed there for a short time. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." Once I surpassed the size of my male friends then I stopped. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who shifted to acting. The teacher she had at high school was what pushed her in the right direction. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school play. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was that of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
